If you’ve never used a staffing agency before, it can feel a little intimidating. You’re not sure what to expect, what to bring, or how the whole process works. The good news is that getting registered and placed in a job with Labor Finders is a straight forward process. There are a handful of mistakes that can slow things down or hurt your chances. All of them are easy to avoid if you know what to look for –here's what not to do when you’re working with a labor staffing agency.

Here's a few tips of what not to do when you're working with a labor staffing agency.

1. Not Knowing What Documents to Bring

Nothing slows down the registration process more than missing paperwork. Labor Finders requires unexpired, actual documents (not copies) from the I-9 Acceptable Documents list. We highly recommend you bring a resume with you if you have one.

  • A valid, government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport)
  • Your Social Security card or proof of work authorization
  • Any relevant certifications (forklift license, flagger certifications, etc.)

Be prepared to be called back to meet with one of our recruiters for a brief interview and orientation.

2. Not Being Upfront About Your Background

This is one of the most important items to get right. If you have a criminal record, gaps in your work history, or limited experience are all things to mention. Labor Finders works with people at all stages, including those who are rebuilding their work history. Being upfront about your background doesn't automatically disqualify you. Recruiters are there to match you with the right job, not to judge you. The more honest you are about your situation, the better they can help you.

3. Being Vague About What Kind of Work You Want

Recruiters can only place you in jobs that match what you tell them. If you're not clear about the type of work you're looking for, your availability, or any physical limitations you have, you risk being placed in an assignment that's wrong for you. Come in prepared to ask basic questions like

  • What kind of work have you done before?
  • Are you open to construction, warehousing, manufacturing?
  • Can you work mornings?
  • Do you have transportation?

4. Registering and Then Going Quiet

One of the biggest mistakes first-time staffing agency users make is completing their registration and then waiting for the phone to ring. We advise all our associates to stay in close contact and check in regularly, and please let us know about all your skills and interests to help us provide you with even more possibilities.
